8-17-08, A great day at our Ministry Fair. Putting a "Face with the Space" gave everyone an opportunity to see where the action is and who leads the many programs we offer at St. Matthew's. Doing God's will on this earth is more of a blessing for each of us that volunteer in His name than those who we do things for. Don't be afraid to step forward to better our works. Share your time and talents.....God is good.
Gray, one of our beautiful newly baptized Christians, looks as contented as she can be. What a glorious day and one question I have --- who is having more fun in the baptizmal water your big brother James or Father Rob?
8-3-08 marks the date of our 1st Annual Gospel Hymn Sing. A wonderful time was had by all. Pulling together to make this a special night praising God through songs requested by many. Thanks Pat and especially thanks Anne. God is good.
Welcome Silas - 7-19-08. How precious you are and you were the youngest participant of our 1st Gospel Hymn Sing. Your family is a blessing and so are you.
Our own Travis back from Afghanistan married Jenny 8-2-08. They were gorgeous together. A wonderful ceremony and prayers of thanksgiving that they are together again. Clark and Ann - great job!
Another new addition to our church family Ethan -- 7/24/08. Congratulations Miller and Laura.
Welcome Dominic to such a loving family --- 7/16/08. Josie is such a good "big sister". Blessings to you all.
Welcome Jaylin to our newly Baptized Christians. We love you and will hold you up in prayer while you grow. Congrats to all.
Vacation Bible School was a wonderful time for all the kids AND the teachers. Thanks, Debbie, for working so hard to make this a great year to touch so many hearts.
Change is inevitable ---- Growth is optional. We are now choosing to grow. Our beloved and well-served education wing was taken down on June 5, 2008 and all the rubble was moved out on June 6, 2008. It took approximately two hours and the wing was down. A bitter/sweet feeling but doesn't our new education wing look beautiful. May we make as many wonderful memories and grow as much, OR more in Christ's name, in this new edition to our church. God is good!
Our 9AM music leaders, Leap of Faith, spent time bringing songs of praise to the residents of LaurelHurst. Thanks, Donna, for the opportunity to use our time and talent to add to these delightful people's Memorial Day celebrations.
MOVING DAY HAS ARRIVED! A thankful and ambitious bunch joined together to strip the old education wing classrooms and start filling our new education wing. YAHOO!!
Carolyn, one of our St. Matthew's Seniors, had an art show display that was enjoyed by her church family. Great job, Carolyn!
Our Youth Sunday was such a joy. Our Seniors were blessed and honored with a special cross to follow them throughout their new paths in life. All the young people outdid themselves in their singing and praising God. A special thanks to Becca for her homily that was a true heart-felt blessing to all.
What a joyful Pentecost Sunday at St. Peter's when our worship leader was our own Fergie. Her sermon was Spiritually uplifting to all and a step closer to the goal of her Diaconate walk in Christ. God is good --- all the time!!!
"Christian's in April" was a wonderful outreach experience by the many that joined in and worked hard to do something to make someone's life just a little bit better. Praise be to God.
Welcome to our beautiful newly Baptized Lily. Proud parents and Godparents joined by our entire church family vowed to raise Lily in Christ.
Please meet Drew - our newest baptized young man. What a proud day for Drew's family and the new God Parents. Friends, brothers and sisters celebrated together. Blessings to all.
During Holy Week the Tennebrae Service, Wednesday night, the Maunday Thursday Service and the Good Friday service touched the hearts of many. These services bring our faith into the reality of the sacrifice Jesus made for you and me. We celebrated the Stations of the Cross outside on the grounds of the church at the 6PM Good Friday service ending up with the cross on the altar. We thank you Jesus for your sacrifice for us.
Lent is a very special season in our traditional walk towards the joyous resurrection of our Lord. Here is a look at our very special chef for our Lenten Suppers. This is one multi-talented young man. Thanks John!
A February look at the progress for our new office space and education wing. Check out the "Corner Stone" that we placed at the entry way. The projected move-in month looks like April - 2008. God is good!
On February 2nd, Father Joseph was ordained at Trinity Cathedral in Columbia. What a joyous occassion and in counting the people in the bulletin PLUS the choir from St. Matthew's, I counted 24 people that were directly involved with the service from our church. The congregation was full of our St. Matthew's family as well. Sunday the 3rd we held a covered dish gathering to celebrate this milestone in St. Matthew's life as a parish. Congratulations Father Joseph and to the entire family.
If you want to enjoy the "blog site" for our youth please visit them at http://saintmatthewsyouth.blogspot.com/. I was going to put some pictures of the ski trip under "What's New" but was so impressed by their new blog site I want everyone to visit it when you can. Mark it as one of your favorites and check on them often.
Festival of Lessons and Music started with a beautiful liturgical dance to "Mary Did You Know". A celebration of the special season.
We had a "DREW SIGHTING" in Spartanburg!!! A great Christmas present for all of us!
Confirmation/Affirmation/Baptism -- what more could be special in one day! The Bishop was present and loving to all. A tour of our new Education Wing and a visit with our Vestry topped off the day his visit to St. Matthew's.
12-08-07 - Education Wing construction progress. See if you can find the truss that has all the names written on it from our Annual Parish Meeting. What a great feeling to know we are part of the structure itself. God is good.
Our 12-2-07 Annual Meeting - We elected 3 new vestry representatives, listened to an overview of our budget and had fun enjoying the good food supplied by everyone. We said thank you and goodby to our Senior Warden with a beautiful gift. We were blessed to have Cameron and Roberto with us from Ecuador.
The Choir Christmas party was yummy with David and Debbie Rutledge outdoing themselves with hospitality and wonderful food. Thank you for opening up your home and celebrating the birth of Jesus with us during this holiday season.
Chrismons being made for our Church Christmas Tree......our ECW is up and working towards gathering women together and having fun while doing projects for our church, community or mission fields.
11-16-07 The new "Education Wing" progress! Keep praying!!
All Saint's Day at St. Matthew's was dedicated to all the loved ones that has passed on before us. A beautiful Christian tradition.
HAPPENING 2007!!! What an awesome experience for our young adults and for their parents! God is good.
It's amazing how much can get done when men get together. Our kickoff for the Men's Group at St. Matthew's was a success. The Preschool play area is now ready for business. Good food and good fellowship!
THE PUMPKINS ARE MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN EVER!!!
OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION September, 23, 2007. Good friends, good food, good music and the blessing of sharing our worship space together with all. A true church family reunion. The turning of the ground for our building project was shared with up to three generations of many families that have made St. Matthew's their place of worship for years. All past and present Vestry persons were invited to turn the soil together as our new Education Wing is being constructed. Growing in Faith together.
THE CHOIR and our 9AM praise team "Leap of Faith" sang at LaurelHurst as part of the outreach music ministry we offer at St. Matthew's.
PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE - a great event to express our desire to serve the community with our wonderful teachers.
